Privacy for your visitors
You are the controller of what your visitors type into the widget; Grounly processes it for you. This page gives you the facts to put in your own privacy notice, and the two things to set up.
What the widget stores on the visitor's device
Nothing. No cookies and no localStorage. The conversation is tied to a random session id that lives in the page's memory and is gone when the tab closes. That means the widget itself does not need cookie consent on your site — your own analytics or marketing tags are a separate matter.
What is sent to Grounly
The visitor's messages, the page URL they are on (so the bot can answer in context), the widget language, and — only if the visitor fills in the contact form — the name, email and phone they enter. Files a visitor attaches are read for the answer and not stored. Voice clips are transcribed and not stored. No IP address is stored with a conversation.
Where it goes
Conversations are stored in the EU (Germany). To generate an answer, the question and the passages retrieved from your content are sent to our AI provider in the United States (OpenRouter / OpenAI) under EU Standard Contractual Clauses; they are not used for training. The full list is on the subprocessors page and the terms are in our Data Processing Agreement, which you accepted at signup.
How long it is kept
As long as you say. Under Settings → Data & privacy you set a retention period in days (default one year); conversations older than that are deleted automatically, transcripts included. You can also delete any single conversation from the Conversations page, and you can export everything as a file.
What you need to do
1. Add a paragraph to your privacy notice: that you use an AI chat assistant operated by Grounly (Galiandra s. r. o., Slovakia) as a processor, what it collects (messages, page URL, optional contact details), that answers are generated by an AI model in the US under SCCs, and how long you keep conversations.
2. Paste the link to that notice under Settings → Appearance → Your privacy notice. The widget shows it under the contact form, which is where the law expects it.
The widget already tells visitors they are talking to an AI, on the teaser bubble, in the chat header and in the first line of the conversation. That wording is part of the product and cannot be switched off — it is what the EU AI Act asks of any chatbot.
